Why Permanent Anklets Have Become Summer’s Most Effortless Luxury

Certain pieces of jewellery seem to belong to a particular season. A cosy scarf in winter, a favourite pair of sunglasses in spring and, for me, nothing says summer quite like an anklet.

Not so long ago, anklets were something we’d buy before a holiday, wear for a couple of weeks with sandals and then quietly forget about until the following year. Today, they’ve become something very different. Over the past couple of summers, I’ve noticed more and more clients choosing permanent anklets, not simply because they’re fashionable, but because they fit so effortlessly into everyday life. They’re delicate, beautifully understated and become part of your style without ever feeling overdone.

Perhaps that’s what I love most about them. They’re never the loudest piece of jewellery you’re wearing, but they have a wonderful way of catching the light just as you’re walking along the beach, sitting outside with friends or slipping on your favourite sandals. They’re subtle, timeless and quietly luxurious.

One of the biggest misconceptions about Forever Jewellery is that the experience is all about the weld. Whilst the tiny weld is what makes the jewellery permanent, it’s actually one of the quickest parts of the appointment. The real experience begins long before that.

Every appointment starts with a conversation. We take the time to understand your style, the jewellery you already wear and how you’d like your anklet to look and feel. Some clients arrive knowing exactly what they want, while others know they’d love an anklet but haven’t yet decided on the perfect chain. That’s absolutely fine. Choosing jewellery you’ll wear every single day shouldn’t feel rushed.

One of the things I love about our collection is the variety available. Some clients fall in love with an elegant, fine chain that almost disappears against the skin. In contrast, others prefer something with a little more texture or choose to personalise it with a heart, an initial, a birthstone or another meaningful connector. No two appointments are ever quite the same because no two clients are the same.

Although I introduced Forever Jewellery to ISHA, Steph has become our resident anklet specialist and genuinely loves creating these beautiful pieces for clients. If you’ve met Steph, you’ll already know how calm and approachable she is, and that’s exactly how our anklet appointments feel. There’s plenty of chatting, trying different chains and making small adjustments until everything sits perfectly.

Finding the right fit is incredibly important. An anklet needs enough movement to feel comfortable throughout the day, while still sitting beautifully around the ankle. It might sound like a small detail, but it’s often those little details that make the biggest difference once you’ve been wearing your jewellery for months or even years.

We also have the occasional moment that makes us smile. Now and then, a wonderfully flexible client will happily rest their foot on the table to help Steph find the perfect angle for welding. Thankfully, gymnastics isn't normally required, but it certainly makes for a memorable photograph!

One question we’re often asked is whether permanent anklets are practical. The answer is almost always yes. They are designed to become part of your everyday life, whether you’re heading to work, relaxing by the pool, enjoying a beach holiday or simply popping to the supermarket. There’s no clasp to fasten every morning or remove before bed. Most clients tell us that after a few days they forget they’re even wearing their anklet until somebody notices it and asks where it’s from.

Of course, life isn’t always predictable. If your jewellery ever needs to be removed for a medical procedure or another reason, it can be snipped at the tiny welded jump ring and, in many cases, rewelded afterwards. Knowing that reassures many clients, while still allowing them to enjoy the experience of wearing permanent jewellery every day.

One of my favourite parts of Forever Jewellery is that it often celebrates relationships as much as it celebrates jewellery. Whilst many clients choose to book on their own as a little act of self-care, others arrive with someone special. They work just as beautifully with trainers and jeans as they do with sandals on holiday, quietly adding a little sparkle without demanding attention.

That’s something I think we’ve all come to appreciate more. Jewellery doesn’t have to be bold to be beautiful. Sometimes the pieces we treasure most are the ones that simply become part of who we are.
